Upcoming Events: BPYO Concert -- November 8, 2014, 3:00PM at the Morrison Center BPYO Flash Mob! – November 15, time TBA at your local Albertsons (location TBA)
Conductor’s Note:
Dear Educators,
It has been a productive month here at BPYO! We are well into our repertoire for the first concert and things are going very well.
We scheduled our first BPYO social/listening party on September 29. The young musicians were fed dinner thanks to gracious parent volunteers, and then invited to listen to professional recordings of our repertoire with their music. We hope that this will encourage more students to listen to the repertoire as part of the practice routine in the future.
As we trek through the year, we will continue to encounter scheduling conflicts. BPYO’s new policy is that foreseeable absences must be submitted in writing 2 weeks before the requested absence date. We hope that this will allow time for discussion of any kinks if necessary. Please do not hesitate to contact me with conflict concerns. I am very happy to work with you about the best course of action to take where a student’s musical education and well-being is involved.
BPYO will have an open rehearsal for educators on October 13. You are cordially invited to attend and witness the progress of your students.
Finally, please find in the bottom right sidebar of the home newsletter page your official invitation as guests of the BPYO to our first concert on November 8. Please print or download onto your mobile device your “BPYO Educator Guest Pass” and show it to the box office upon your arrival at the concert to receive a free ticket.
We look forward to seeing you at our next concert!
Sincerely,
Deanna Tham BPYO Music Director
Education Director, Explore Music!
BPYO Rehearsal Update:
In the past few rehearsals, BPYO has been focusing on the following concepts:
-section leadership in the strings and winds
-telegraphing pulse and roles of each part
-string colors such as sul ponticello and sul tasto
EDUCATOR’S OPEN REHEARSAL: OCTOBER 13
BPYO still needs trumpets, trombones, and percussion! Please consider urging your students to experience some substantial orchestral repertoire.
