Conductor’s Note:
Dear Educators,
We are starting off the New Year strong with rehearsals of Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony. Everyone is working very hard and we are right on track for a strong showing later this month.
Our next concert is on February 27 and features Abrie Church playing the last movement of Mendelssohn's First Piano Concerto as well as the Boise Junior High Honor Orchestra. We are so happy to share this concert with them every year as we guide new generations through the strong musical community we are building here in Boise.
Don't forget your educator pass! Educators get in free at the door. The PDF pass is available on the right sidebar of the Newsletter blog page.
Our annual Concerto Competition is taking place on Sunday, February 28. We will be selecting up to 3 winners for the Spring 2016, Fall 2016, and Winter 2017 concerts. We are excited to hear some amazing talent!
Thank you for everyone's support in helping to move our Spring Concert. Due to the convergence of many schedules that month, we have decided to move our Spring Concert to the evening of either April 26 or April 27. We will have more information on the exact time and venue soon. Our program will feature an all-German composer cast, including Mendelssohn, Liszt, and Wagner.
BPYO's first annual Bring-a-Friend day is coming up on April 4. Members of the orchestra will be able to invite one friend to sit in on rehearsal and play with BPYO as part of our recruiting and growth efforts -- plus, it will be a lot of fun!
BPYO is starting recruiting for next season! I am happy to come to your schools to work with your students and talk about BPYO. We are looking at auditions taking place the 21st and 22nd of May. Audition information will be available soon.
Finally, BPYO is happy to announce the rolling-out of a new Composer-in-Residence program in conjuction with David Biedenbender at BSU. We will be putting out a call for scores in the near future to accept one college-age composer-in-residence and one high-school-aged junior resident to be able to workshop their compositions with David Biedenbender and have them performed by the BPYO. If you have any students interested in composition, this will be an amazing chance for them!
Thank you for your continuing support of BPYO and we look forward to seeing you at our next concert!
Sincerely,
Deanna Tham BPYO Music Director
BPYO Rehearsal Update:
We have workshopped through all of the Symphony and are working on piecing it back together in the next few weeks.
Student recognition:
Congratulations to the following students for outstanding preparation:
Our trombone and tuba sections are becoming very mature orchestral leaders of the brass section and the entire orchestra. Kudos!
