Conductor’s note:
Dear Educators,
I has been a very busy month here at BPYO!
Thank you to all of you who came out to our concert on November 8th. It went very well and the students sounded great! I am especially proud of them for pulling together such difficult repertoire to make the concert as exciting and inspiring as it was. It is my strong feeling that the success as well as the difficulties that we experienced as a group for this concert is really spring-boarding all of the students into a new confidence and dedication to the group, putting down essential groundwork for outstanding musicality.
The repertoire for our next concert cycle is Weber’s Overture to Der Freischutz and Schubert’s Symphony No. 8, “Unfinished.” It is my goal with this repertoire to really delve into some musical ideas of phrase, structure of pacing, and expressivity of melody. While the technical challenges are slightly less demanding, the musical and emotional challenges of these works pose a different struggle. As the music becomes more familiar for your students, I hope that we can work together to push the bounds of their musicality.
We are extremely lucky to have Albertson’s as our lead sponsor for the BPYO this year! One of the aspects of our partnership with them happened on Saturday, November 15th. Albertson’s has gave us the opportunity to perform the Treasure Valley’s first ever orchestral flash mob at their store on 16th and State Street. We were all very excited to give this new venture a try and to be part of the Albertson’s community in some their promotional materials. The flash mob went very well and everyone had a lot of fun!
Thank you for your continued support and hard work with your students!
Sincerely,
Deanna Tham
