Upcoming Events: BPYO Concert -- February 27, 2016 at the Morrison Center

BPYO seniors perform wth BPO -- February 26, 2016 @ Brandt Center

-- February 27, 2016 @ Morrison Center

Conductor’s Note:

Dear Educators,

Thank you to all who attended our Fall Concert. It was a huge success and everyone sounded wonderful! This is not in small part due to the work you do with your students. Thank you!

We have started work on our next concert cycle music, the much anticipated Symphony No. 4 by Tchaikovsky. Everyone is very excited and already working hard to committing to the necessary adjustments to perform the work with as much integrity as possible. We have managed to read through the entire symphony already and will begin detail work after Thanksgiving.

The piece will be performed with doubled winds where appropriate a la Herbert von Karajan to balance the power of the work with the strength of the sound. This also has the added benefit of giving more students to experience the entire work.

As a reminder, students have received information about our upcoming Concerto Competition for the next year. We will be selecting up to 3 winners for the Spring 2016, Fall 2016, and Winter 2017 concerts. Competition selections must be either part of the public domain or cleared with me (Deanna) to ensure availability of parts, and must have a maximum length of 15 minutes. The competition will take place on February 28 in front of a panel of BP judges.

Thank you for your continuing support of BPYO and we look forward to seeing you at our next concert!

Sincerely,

Deanna Tham BPYO Music Director

BPYO Rehearsal Update:

Most of the challenge in Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony will be the syncopated dotted rhythm in the first movement.

Student recognition:

Congratulations to the following students for outstanding preparation:

Anna Black, Ellie Hunt, and Anaise Boucher-Browning are new string section principals this cycle along with Ava Camilo and Lexie Friel.

Katherine Townsend did an EXCELLENT job on perhaps what is the most difficult piccolo excerpt in the repertoire.

Madeline Wickard has prepared superbly for her innumerable solos.

Thank you for all your help with tuba and percussion recruitment!
