Upcoming Events: BPYO Concert -- November 14, 2014, 3:00PM at the Morrison Center
Conductor’s Note:
Dear Educators,
We have had a very successful month of rehearsals in preparation for our upcoming concert!
Our students had their first sectional with the members of the Boise Philharmonic this past month, and it has made all the difference as we learn how to listen to and lead our sections. The confidence of our BPYO students this year have made balance a challenge that we have not had in the past (a good challenge) but all of our young musicians are making, integrating, and retaining changes very well.
As we move away from balance issues, our next hurdle will be bringing out convincing phrasing now that different sections have space to come through the texture. Our pieces for this concert have very rich context and program material from which to draw from, which makes our phrasing goals very attainable. Our biggest improvement this cycle has been with the Prokofiev, which poses different challenges such as interesting phrase lengths and harmonies that are not so comfortable for the ear.
On October 26, students received information about our upcoming Concerto Competition for the next year. We will be selecting up to 3 winners for the Spring 2016, Fall 2016, and Winter 2017 concerts. Competition selections must be either part of the public domain or cleared with me (Deanna) to ensure availability of parts, and must have a maximum length of 15 minutes. The competition will take place on February 28 in front of a panel of BP judges.
Our fall concert is coming up at 3PM on November 14 at the Morrison Center. All educators come to BPYO concerts for free. Please show your free educators pass that is located in the right sidebar of this page, at the door.
Thank you for your continuing support of BPYO and we look forward to seeing you at our next concert!
Sincerely,
Deanna Tham BPYO Music Director
